Culture
Includes aerobic culture only.
Identification and susceptibility will be performed, if appropriate, at an additional charge.
Note: If anaerobic culture is desired, order WDC Culture, Wound, Deep or Surgical.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Wound
Container/Tube: Sterile culture swab
Specimen Volume: Entire specimen
Collection Instructions:
1. Prepare site, wash wound margins well with antiseptic.
2. Remove cap with swab attached.
3. Obtain swab specimen from wound and/or drainage.
4. Return swab to transport tube.
5. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date and
actual time of collection, and source of specimen.
6. Place tube in a biohazard bag and seal.
Additional Information
1. Specimen source is required.
2. If a Gram stain is requested, submit second swab.
