CultureIncludes aerobic and anaerobic culture.
Identification and susceptibility will be performed, if appropriate, at an additional charge.
Call Chilton Hospital Microbiology Laboratory at 973-831-5000, ext. 5670 to order acid-fast bacilli (AFB), or fungal culture.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: TissueContainer/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container
Specimen Volume: Entire specimen
Collection Instructions:
1. Prepare site, wash wound margins well with antiseptic.2. Collect specimen by curettage of tissue.
3. Place specimen in container. If there is a delay in transport, add 5 mL of sterile saline to container.
4. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and source of specimen.
5. Place container in a biohazard bag and seal.
Additional Information:
1. Specimen source is required.
2. Do not send in pneumatic tube system. Hand deliver to a technician.
