Specimen Requirements

Patient Preparation:

1. Patients should not collect samples 3 days before, during, or after their menstrual, if they have bleeding hemorrhoids, blood in their urine, open cuts on their hands or if they have strained during the bowel movement.

2. Roughage in the diet can increase test accuracy.

 

Specimen Type: Stool

Collection Container/Tube: Clean, dry container

Submission Container/Tube: Collection Card

Specimen Volume: Entire specimen

Specimen Minimum Volume: Size of a pea

Collection Instructions:

1. Collect fresh, random stool.

2. Do not pass stool into toilet. Cover toilet with plastic wrap (Saran Wrap) to catch specimen.
3. Using wooden stick, collect samples from 2 separate areas of stool specimen, and apply to Collection Card.
