Includes ABO, Rh type, and direct Coombs.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) Microtainer

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions: Mother and baby demographics must be indicated on tube. Label as follows:

Baby’s Information:

1. Name of  baby (last name, boy or girl)

2. Baby’s 6 digit hospital ID number

3. Birthdate

4. Initials of collector

5. Place labeled Microtainer inside an empty 10-mL, plain, red-top tube and label with the following information:

Mother’s Information

1. Mother’s name

2. Mother’s hospital ID number

3. Time and date of draw

4. Initials of collector

Additional Information: A computer-generated label with patient information may be used as long as all of the above requirements are met.
