ColorimetricSpecimen Requirements
Patient Preparation:1. Patient should be instructed to eat and drink nothing except water after midnight.
2. Patient should be instructed to refrain from smoking and drinking coffee just before and during test.
Performance of Test:
1. Physician orders specific amount of Glucola and length of test.
2. Draw blood for a fasting glucose. Do not perform test if patient is not fasting or fasting glucose is 160 mg/dL.
3. Give patient standard glucose solution as follows:

4. Draw specimen(s) at specified times.

Container/Tube: Light green top (lithium heparin gel), gold or tiger top (serum gel)
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Collection Instructions: Label tube with time of draw.
