Specimen Requirements

Patient Preparation:

1. Patient should be fasting unless physician indicates otherwise.

2. Patient must not have eaten in the last 1 hour.

 

Performance of Test:

1. Draw specimen for a fasting (initial) glucose.

2. Have patient drink 50 g of Glucola beverage.

3. A second specimen should be drawn 1 hour after patient has completed Glucola beverage.

 

Specimen Collection:

Specimen Type: Plasma or serum
Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin gel), gold or tiger top (serum gel)

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Collection Instructions: Label tube with time of draw.
